hello, for Redox buffer solutions, what is the uncertainty that we can accept? THANKS

Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 11:45 am

Our solutions are at +/- 5 mV, on the other hand at the measurement level +/- 50 mV without worries

ok, the same value (+/- 50mV) for +220mV and +468 mV?

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 11:47 am

Yes

Redox measurement is very volatile

avatar
Dec 21, 2022, 11:49 am

What does very volatile mean?

The measured values may vary frequently. What is your concern?

avatar
Dec 21, 2022, 11:52 am

My concern is that when I test buffer solutions, my values have moved constantly. and sometimes I have values +60mv compared to the reference value

avatar

so I don't know under what conditions I can have stable values

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 11:55 am

Do this: Leave the probe soaked for 4 hours in the standard solution, and come and see the value every hour. See if it moves. If it still moves then it may be a tired probe! a probe is a battery, if it no longer has enough energy then it gives very unstable values.

ok I will try your idea, thank you very much for your advice, I wish you a great day.

Hello again, excuse me, I have a question just arrived

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 12:11 pm

No worries

The interval that you told me +/-50mV is applied in all measurement conditions (I mean in a swimming pool as in the lab for a small 250ml flask or a 2l, 5l, 20l fermenter?

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 12:14 pm

No, this is what I observe in the case of swimming pools

avatar
Dec 21, 2022, 12:16 pm

Ah ok, so if I test my redox probes with the buffer solutions at +220mV and +468mV the range of +/-50mV is still good?

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 12:17 pm

Yes . but you also need to calibrate

avatar
Dec 21, 2022, 12:18 pm

Yes I calibrate before measuring, just to see if my probes are still good

avatar
Olivier Michaud Dec 21, 2022, 12:19 pm

OK

thanks again
